Restoration of the Claire Tavener Memorial Bench

Having been in place for over four years, the Claire Tavener Bench memorial bench at the Grove, Nailsea was beginning to look a bit tired and had been damaged. Clair’s father, Steve Willmott contacted us to see if we could help return it to its former condition.  This was the biggest bench we have ever worked on but, having welcomed Steve into the fold of Nailsea Shedders, the troops rallied round and set about the task.   A small team dismantled the bench and took the steel frames back to Wraxall Village Club.  Once over 130  timber pieces had been removed, each was sanded and lacquered, either at Wraxall Village Club or in members’ own homes.  The mammoth task was completed in mid June and after a long day of assembly the team took the opportunity for a well earned rest….and a photo opportunity!
